Hello lj friends! I will be leaving for Denmark tomorrow to study textile design at DIS in Copenhagen! I wanted to let you know that I will be keeping a blog at http://kimberlylewis.blogspot.com/ I am hoping to update fairly often with photos, progress in my studio, and whatever other adventures I may come across!
I will still be keeping my lj, and reading my friends page, but I just needed a change!

Happy Birthday Mom!
My mom would have been 48 today. I don't think she would mind me saying that. 48 is so young, I wish I could have celebrated 48, 49, 50 and so on. I've struggling with the idea of trying to do something in memory of my mother, not just for her birthday but to celebrate her life. Oddly enough, I received an email yesterday from a Motherless Daughters message board that I belong to, ( here is what it said )
I am meeting with her this weekend. I think my mother would love the fact that I am going to be part of something that is using what I love, art, to raise awareness. If you would like to see Rachel's photographs they can be found at her website at www.rachelneville.com

11:52PM
lima beans, books, clogs, yonx, long underwear, tea, small beach houses, dangly earrings, turtlenecks and seasonal sweaters, squash, firemens chicken, soup, blankets, zuchinni, flowers, phone calls before my alarm went off, long talks on the phone, silly packages with glowsticks and disney princess bandaids, crying on your bed and you telling me that it would all be ok, gelato and vodka, libraries, candy hidden everywhere, earthworms, the lonely wine cooler in the fridge, roses, gardens, pickety place, phone calls, bubblebaths, birdhouses, scrapbooks, cranberry juice, recipes, bugs in soup, boxes and boxes of tampons, used book stores, knitting, three bean salad, limoncello...
my list goes on and on and it only makes sense to me.

The past few days have been the worst of my entire life. My house has no tree. New Hampshire has no snow. But worst of all my wonderful mother, my best friend is no longer with us. This is not how Christmas is supposed to be.
 Rest in Peace Mommy Dearest
The wake and the funeral will be held after Christmas. More information is here.

I find it ironic that this piece of furniture that I have designed to relieve anxiety has caused me to have multiple anxiety attacks over the past week.
I'm finally starting to take my dads advice.

 My soon to be hat!
I had my final critique today in 3D thank the lord. It actually went much better than I expected. After looking at what some of my peers brought in, I was quite pleased with my results. My professor surprisingly had nothing but positive comments to say which was refreshing. The class loved my Redesign of the Burberry Brit Red bottle and it was quite the nice break from all of the hand held power tools that were presented. I also had to Production Methods Metals final today. I was a bit hesitant since we had covered a ton of material and didn't really know what to expect since it was open notes, I came prepared with my two course packets and easily finished it in under an hour. I ran into some issues with my positive for furniture but I should be finishing it up tonight and hopefully pouring. A little off schedule but its to be expected.
I have been knitting compulsively for the past few days. Just a simple rolled brim hat. I had to start over three times, but I finally got the hang of the circular needles. I've been knitting every free chance I get, a row here a row there, three rows before bed. It is addicting and almost like meditation for me. Its such a pleasant break from my usually racing mind. Going to try to have a project always on my needles, so I can increase my skill level and use it as a productive stress reliever. Speaking of which I am going to the Park Slope Knitting Circle meet up on Thursday night at the Tea Lounge, initially I was scared that the crowd would be somewhere around my grandmothers age but it seems from the list of RSVP's that it looks 20-40ish. Phew. Hopefully I'll make some new friends and learn some new things.
The only way that this day could get better would be if the sr. product designer at Jonathan Adler emailed me back. I am so impatient I know!

HOLY SHIT
Within the last 2 hours I have gotten in contact with the wardrobe supervisor for an Italian film called Christmas In New York who I emailed about an internship to be a wardrobe assistant a few days ago. Our conversation went something like during my break from class
Me: Hi This is Kimberly Lewis, I had called yesterday about the wardrobe assistant internship position- Luccia (?): Oh Hi I am so glad you called! Can you come in right now or tonight we start filming in 10 minutes. Me: I have class until 8 but what about tomorrow? Luccia- Tomorrow is great! Give me a call back later! Ciao!
I went back to class and couldn't concentrate for the life of me on Solidworks. Instead images of clothes and Italy danced in my head. I then realized I am not only working 9:45 - 12 but picked up some extra hours 3 - 5. DAMN IT. I called her back after class and we are meeting at 1 and told her that I have to leave at 2 which she said was perfectly fine. I have to go from Cobble Hill to Greenwich Village and then to Brooklyn Heights which seems reasonable. I hope I am not screwing myself over!

9:38PM

This weekend felt entirely too long considering it started Friday and is coming to an end as I type. Even worse I can't even make a list of highlights because it all together wasn't all that memorable because of all of the rain. But don't fret there was some life to this weekend....

6:13PM

School started on Monday, although it doesn't really feel like it yet. This first week has been way more laid back than last year which is good. I am really excited about my furniture class despite people telling me not to take it. Besides that I am taking 3D, production methods- metal, World Civ 2, History of ID, Yoga and Silkscreening. I was a bit depressed on Monday due to seeing everyone again and telling me about their summers and internships and me telling them about my internship disaster. But I was like hey I taught gymnastics at a circus camp, how many people can say that?! Actually I didn't say that but in hindsight I probably should have slipped that in just to see their reactions.
( Here is a quick tour of my room just because )

9:44PM

( Photos from my mini vacation last weekend, long overdue! ) I've been quite busy, actually I only worked 26 hours last week which = tons of money but it felt like more because I was soo tired, but having fun at the same time so it was worth it. I only work from 8:30 - around 1:30 so the hours are soo very nice.; I have been dubbed the gymnastics specialist which has its perks. I am looking forward to going back tomorrow.
I came back to my room this morning to find out that I couldn't get in because maintenance changed the locks on me. Not cool! After running around trying to find the RA on duty, I was finally given the correct key, it would have been nice if they had given me a warning. Speaking of warnings, I went to an appointment with my therapist on Monday only to be told that this was the last appointment she would be having with a Pratt student ever. Apparently she had been fired. Thanks again Pratt for not notifying me of these important changes. But on a good note I went up to the 12th floor yesterday and discovered that my new room was left open. The kitchen is almost done and looks beautiful. I can't wait to move in. My room is also much larger than the measurements that were given to me on the floor plan thank god. Its actually bigger than the room that I'm in right now and I have a balcony right outside my window! Hopefully I will be moving in sometime this week. You can be sure that when I am done decorating I will post lots of photos, I have a lot in store for that room.

1:05AM
My last day at Zara is Thursday. thank. god.
Teaching tomorrow from 9 - 12:30 then 3 - 4:30. Ana sprained her ankle so I am subbing for her, Aimee told met that I do 5 - 6 30 minute classes. Gahhh I have never taught that many in a row but I think I'll be ok.
This weekend I am going to Cape Cod with Lee for the Wood Hole Film Festival. His film "Loose Change" was selected to be in it. I am going to the beach FINALLY. It has been a while, far too long actually, I haven't been all summer and I didn't go last summer either. Unfortunately we forgot to book a hotel room (and 2 weeks in advance was obviously too late). We could only find places that were $180 - $250 per night. Yikes! So we are staying at my uncle's house in Plymouth which is a 30 minute drive, the upside to all of this is that it is FREE, they will probably feed us, I will get to see the family, AND my uncle has my old pool in his backyard!
Next week I start teaching at circus camp! I honestly have no idea what is in store, but I am co-teaching with Aimee in the afternoon so I am sure I will get the rundown. It will most likely consist of lots of dancing, gymnastics, art and FACE PAINTING, for me at least considering I do not have many other circus-y talents. I am excited to start, it is excellent money and I'll only be working 9 - 1 so that leaves the afternoon and evenings FREE FREE FREE! I want to do a lot of sewing, knitting, work on some of my own art and design ideas that are formulating in my head and GO TO THE BEACH! No more retail for me!!
